After having stopped using the bookmarks in Netscape and IE a long time ago, I thought it was about time to start collecting bookmarks again, but I didn't want to have to deal with the built in bookmark managers in the two browsers. I knew that a hierarchical tree wasn't the right way to manage bookmarks. For a file system it's fine, but not for information, which is what bookmarks represent. I hoped and pined that someone else had realized this too, and I went on my quest for a better solution. After looking for awhile I came across Powermarks on some download site, and from the site's description of the program it sounded like what I was looking for. Actually, initially I concieved of some category based system, where the bookmarks could be members of multiple categories, so that they would not be limited to one folder, or have to be duplicated so one could go in all the places they would fit. When I opened up Powermarks I realized that a keyword based system actually made *more* sense, and was more flexible since you don't even have to define your categories ahead of time. There are some other bookmark managers that work in a way that is somewhat similar to the way Powermarks works, but I could not find one that was as powerful (no pun intended)."
