Powermarks is a Windows 95 Bookmark Accelerator for use with Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer. It loaded quickly and neatly onto my PC, and imported my Netscape and Explorer 4 (final release) bookmarks at lightning speed. It also extracted all the URLs from two HTML pages full of links from my web sites, again at incredible speed. Each individual bookmark is given a properties sheet which allows the insertion of keywords, records of visit dates and has space for a full description. Powermarks will helpfully start you off by taking words out of the URL title and making them keywords for the bookmark, until you get around to adding your own.

Each URL can be flagged so that every time you go online, Powermarks shoots off and checks for you to see if the page has been updated, and you only need to right-click to open the URL in either of your browsers, or change the properties. You can save your Powermarks as an HTML page very simply.

The true strength and usefulness of PowerMarks is the powerful, easy to use and versatile search facilities. The main search bar works like a Web search engine, you can put more than one keyword in to narrow the search down. There is also a keyword dictionary which you can pop up and click on any word, and this will select the appropriate list of URLS for you as well.

The sheer speed of Powermarks is amazing - the search is almost instantaneous, adding a new bookmark is a simple matter of clicking on the toolbar icon, and a right click on the icon will bring up the the top ten urls in the current list. You can set it for more if you wish, you can also set the column display by right clicking the headings to show notes, description, last date visited - any of the information on each property sheet can be chosen.

I have no idea how I managed without Powermarks. I now have my own personal map of the World Wide Web,pages are easy to locate and organise, dead links are automatically reported to me, everything I need to locate information, amusement or advice is neatly packaged and accessible with one mouse click. Powermarks is an indispensible tool for anyone who regularly uses the Internet, beautifully designed and easy to use.
