Powermarks is limited to working with browsers that possess a communication interface.  Powermarks needs this interface to:

  • Open a URL in the browser

  • Instruct the browser to open the link in a new window

  • Retrieve the current URL from the top-most browser window  to add a link

Unfortunately, most alternative browsers (MyIE, Avant, Slimbrowser...) do no include this necessary feature.

Powermarks Alternative Solution:

We have created an approach to interact with these browsers by using the Windows operating system to open the URL.  You can participate in the beta testing of this new version here.  This generic approach is limited compared to our current browser integration, but it will allow you to use Powermarks with any browser.

Powermarks works with IE, why not an IE skin?
The IE communication interface used by Powermarks resides in the top-most layer of the browser.  This is the layer that is replaced by the skin browser to customize it.  The IE rendering engine used by these browsers does not contain a communication interface.  Each variant of the IE browser needs to write their own interface.
